Camborne, Redruth and Pool Skyline (CR&P Skyline)

Updated: Nov 3, 2021

Its time Camborne and Redruth had its own Skyrace and when better to launch it than at the start of lockdown 3.0

Often overlooked for the running mecca it is, the hills and trails around the infamous towns deserve to be a race in their own right, with the summit of Carn Brea towering at its centre, it’s bound to attract people from all around (even Four Lanes). Passing iconic locations like Tesco Extra and wading through slurry washed from the fields, this is a route not to be missed!

Obviously, this is a bit of laugh to keep the locals going during the next lockdown. The route is an 8.3 mile circuit taking in the trails above Camborne Redruth and Pool (C,R&P). Based on the Great Flat Load Mining Trails with a lung burning ascent up the back of Carn Brea.

The route is designed to start and end at the Great Flat Load Sign in the South Wheel Frances Car Park and going clockwise.

To take part your simply have to run the route and record it on Strava, Suunto, Garmin or equivalent, take a photo of yourself somewhere along on it and then send the route or link to your route and photos to benjj2000@gmail.com or message it to Ben James Explores on Facebook or Instagram. You can also use the hashtag #crpskyline when posting your photos on social media! The route has to be your total time elapsed, not just your moving time!

You can do this individually or with your one permitted persons to exercise with. A leader board will be updated weekly and the leaders at the end of lockdown 3.0 will be crowned King or Queen of the CR&P skyline!

Thanks to Steve Heller of Cornish News, there will be a first prize of a box of 12 Prima Pasties as well as spot prizes from his sponsors at Coros. My sponsors Tribe will also be donating prizes for lucky competitors drawn at random!

The link to the route on Strava is below, as well as a direct download for the GPX files to upload to your smart watch or app.

Good luck!

Update!!

There has been plenty of attempts at the route and a lot of recees, don’t forget to submit your results. You can try as many times as you like! (one prize entry per person though!)

Entries for the CR&P Skyline competition will end on the 18th of April, but don't worry, it's still part of the West Cornwall Trail Series!
