Sweden Expedition 2022

Finally, we're back to if. After a couple of years of cancellations and postponements, expeditions are a go again.

Over lockdown myself and my team mates have been planning and implementing an idea proposed by Tom Harding for an Expedition that was due to launch this year. Unfortunately, COVID restrictions in our destination country have left it up in the air, meaning we have had to postpone again.

All is not lost though! After a quick brainstorm and rejig, we have decided to divert to Arctic Sweden with the plan to follow part of the famous Kungsleden route, whilst seeking out some of the Ice Climbing and Mountaineering routes this area has to offer. Our Expedition will be taking a route of around 100 miles before diverting off in several locations from the Kungsleden to reach some potential objectives.

There is little information about ice climbing and Mountaineering routes in Northern Sweden (with the exception of a few very well noted peaks like Kebenekaise), so it will be very much a case of climb what we find.

We aim to be as independent as possible and keep the trip to our usual style of unsupported/self reliant in practice for future expeditions.

Should you wish to follow our trip, you can do so our the tracker link below:

The Expedition will run from the 12th of April until the 2nd of May.

A small sample of some of the 55kg of kit I'll be hauling throughout the trip is in the gallery below.
